The Mission Committee is again sponsoring two additional projects for the Christmas season.
Head Start
Over the last few years we have been giving the Head Start Children a Christmas gift. Kohl’s Department Store has a children’s program they support by selling a number of children’s books, each featuring a different animal. They then also sell the stuffed animals that are featured in the books. The book and the animal run around $5 each. We have been giving the Head Start kids a book and the featured animal. There are 34 kids in the Head Start program at LPC. If you would like to contribute a set or more (book and an animal), please place them in the Mission Corner in the Coat Room. If you can only afford a book or an animal, we will match up the sets. We will also use money from the Fay Shawhan Mission Fund to insure that all the Head Start kids receive a gift. Each year we have done this, the kids have been so delighted to receive this gift to encourage them to read. If you would like someone from the Mission Committee to make this purchase for you, see George Kopittke or Roger Hoyer. We need to have this complete by Dec 18 before the Head Start program stops until 2012.
“Holy” Underwear
The Mission Committee also sponsors the “Holy” Underwear project at Christmas. We ask that as you are out Christmas shopping, that you pick up an extra set of underwear or socks (boys, girls, men’s or women’s) and drop them off in the Mission Corner. Each year, when we go to Nast Trinity, we take clothing to distribute to anyone in need. Since we normally wear our own underwear or socks until they are worn out or full of “holes”, there are never any available used socks or underwear to distribute with the clothing. Clean fresh socks and underwear thus become a prized possession when we have it available to give away. This becomes one simple way of “Being a Congregation of Believers Serving Like Christ”. Thanks in advance for your support in these projects.
